Giving an vitamin injection

How to Clean the Injection Site

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before handling any equipment.
  2. Clean the chosen injection site using an alcohol wipe, or a cotton ball soaked with rubbing alcohol.
  3. Wipe the skin using firm pressure in a circular motion, starting from the centre and moving outwards.
  4. Allow the skin to air dry completely before continuing.

Needle Guide

Your kit includes two different coloured needles:

Blue needle:
This needle is used for drawing up the vitamin liquid from the ampoule.

Orange needle:
This needle is used for the injection.

Do not use the same needle to draw up and inject. Always change from the blue drawing-up needle to the orange injection needle before injecting.

How to Hold and Insert the Syringe

  1. Attach the blue needle to the syringe.
  2. Carefully draw up the vitamin liquid from the ampoule.
  3. Once the vitamin has been drawn up, remove the blue needle safely.
  4. Attach the orange needle to the syringe ready for injection.
  5. Carefully remove the orange needle cap when you are ready to inject.
  6. Check the syringe for any visible air bubbles. If you see air bubbles, gently flick the syringe to help the bubbles rise to the top.
  7. Slowly push the plunger until a tiny drop of vitamin appears at the tip of the orange needle. This helps ensure the needle is primed and ready before injection.

  8. Do not touch the needle, and do not allow the needle to touch any surface.
    If the needle touches anything, dispose of it safely and start again with a new sterile needle.

Injecting the Liquid

 

  • Once the needle is in place, keep the syringe steady.
  • Slowly press the plunger down using a smooth, steady motion until the full amount has been injected.
  • Do not rush this step.

 

Removing the Needle

 

  • Place a clean gauze pad or cotton pad near the injection site.
  • Quickly and carefully pull the needle out at the same angle it went in.
  • Immediately press the gauze or cotton pad over the injection site.
  • Hold gentle pressure for a few seconds.
  • Apply a small plaster if needed.

 

Aftercare

Dispose of the used needle and syringe safely in line with sharps disposal guidance.

Do not reuse needles or syringes.

If you notice severe pain, swelling, redness, warmth, bleeding, dizziness, shortness of breath, or feel unwell after injecting, seek medical advice promptly.
